Chelsea were interested in signing Samu Aghehowa from Atletico Madrid at one stage last summer.
In the end, they never, and Aghehowa went on to join Porto instead. There, the striker has thrived, scoring 20 goals in 32 appearances this season.
As for Chelsea, Marc Guiu was the only centre-forward they went on to sign, a decision the club now probably regret. Guiu and Nicolas Jackson are both currently injured, while the former arrived at Stamford Bridge with very little experience anyway.
They could now sign a new centre-forward this summer, with Aghehowa still on Chelsea’s radar. But the Spaniard is also on Arsenal’s and may prefer a move to the Emirates. The Chelsea Chronicle has taken a look at why.
Upset with Chelsea

According to A Bola, Chelsea and Arsenal are both keen on Aghehowa, with the former’s interest in the 20-year-old obviously not new.
Last August, Chelsea pulled out of a deal to sign Aghehowa before going on to recruit his teammate Joao Felix instead.
The Spain international was played around a bit by Chelsea and it would now not be a surprise if he was unhappy with the club.
The above alone would make it completely understandable if he snubbed the Blues for their London rivals this summer.
Likely to be a starter at Arsenal

Nicolas Jackson is currently Chelsea’s first-choice striker, and the club have a lot of faith in him.
Internally, Jackson is rated very highly at Chelsea, so Aghehowa would face a real fight to get into Enzo Maresca‘s starting XI.
At Arsenal, it is likely to be a much different story. Up front, Mikel Arteta has mostly used Kai Havertz, who is not a natural No.9 or prolific forward. Aghehowa may fancy his chances of ousting the German out of the team.
Bukayo Saka’s crossing

Aghehowa is a big and powerful striker. He will love playing alongside a wide man like Bukayo Saka.
Saka’s crossing is very good, while his attacking play in general is impressive. The 23-year-old, who has registered 10 assists in 16 Premier League outings this season, makes 1.9 crosses per match. It is the second-highest average in the division, according to WhoScored.
All in all, if you are Chelsea, the Aghehowa ship may have sailed now, especially with Arsenal circling.
