What Atletico Madrid could now do with Samu Omorodion after his failed transfer to Chelsea

Atletico Madrid have a decision to make with Samu Omorodion after his move to Chelsea collapsed.

Chelsea were extremely keen on signing Samu Omorodion this summer and were close to bringing him in.

However, agent commissions prevented Omorodion from going to Chelsea, leaving the striker at Atletico Madrid for now.

There is still time for Chelsea to resurrect a deal. However, with the Blues now focusing on signing Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, it seems unlikely that they will make another move for him.

Samu Omorodion could remain at Atletico Madrid after failed Chelsea transfer

Atletico have just brought in another striker, Julian Alvarez, from Manchester City and need money if they want to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Nevertheless, there is still a possibility of Omorodion remaining at the Civitas Metropolitano beyond this transfer window.

According to Marca, Atletico have not ruled out the 20-year-old staying with Diego Simeone’s squad for the new season.

Atletico can find another way to make money before the transfer market shuts. Chelsea could yet sign Joao Felix from them, which would give the Spanish club funds to buy Gallagher in return.

Chelsea should not go back in for Samu Omorodion

It is hard to imagine what Omorodion was actually going to solve at Chelsea. He is still a young centre-forward who is yet to do much in the game.

Last season, for example, he only managed to score eight league goals while out on loan at Alaves. That is not going to take Chelsea to where they want to get to.

What they need, then, is a more proven No.9 like Osimhen. Enzo Maresca is on board with Chelsea signing Osimhen, so maybe the Blues will end up getting him this summer.

Perhaps Omorodion does go on to become a top striker one day. But he is not that right now, which is to be expected given his age, and Chelsea are not in a position where they can spend forever developing him. They need Champions League football as soon as possible and someone who can help them to secure that.
