Two winners and two losers if Xavi Simons joins Chelsea, including Joao Pedro

The transfer speculation appears to be ramping up regarding Chelsea’s interest in RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.

Even though the Blues already have an array of attacking talent in their squad, they are now linked with a move for Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons.

Chelsea are holding talks with the Simons camp as they try to reach a verbal agreement over a move to Stamford Bridge. Apparently, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder may cost up to £60m to snatch from the German Bundesliga side.

Simons is desperate to join Chelsea despite rival interest from Arsenal, so let’s see if the Dutchman ends up in West London next season.

If Simons does join the Blues group, there are bound to be some winners and losers.

Winners

Starting with the winners from the potential deal…

Joao Pedro

If Simons joins the Blues, he will provide superb competition for the wide and central attacking positions. Interestingly, it could be brilliant news for Chelsea star Joao Pedro.

We saw Pedro, 23, shine at the Club World Cup as a centre-forward after his summer arrival from Brighton. Even though he’s got the versatility in his game to play multiple positions, Pedro thinks he’s best as a striker.

Perhaps it will open the door for the Brazilian summer signing to focus on battling for the No.9 position if Simons joins to provide another option in wide areas.

Enzo Maresca

Enzo Maresca, the Blues head coach, is another big winner if Chelsea get the Simons deal over the line.

The Netherlands international would tick so many boxes for the Italian boss as someone who can operate in several creative roles. In fact, Chelsea supporters claim Simons is perfect for Maresca’s system.

Maresca wants goalscorers across the entire attack, and Simons has proven recently he knows where the back of the net is.

Losers

And on to the two losers from this possible transfer…

Jamie Gittens

Jamie Gittens, who joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund this summer, could be immediately about to learn that it’s going to be super competitive for him in West London.

On paper, Gittens currently feels like the first-choice option for the left wing going into next season. However, we predict that he and Simons could really push each other for a spot in the best XI if they end up as teammates.

The 20-year-old winger has built up a great reputation for his development at Dortmund, but he’s not got the same kind of international pedigree yet as Simons.

Tyrique George

We struggle to see a spot for Chelsea youngster Tyrique George, 19, in next season’s squad if Simons arrives.

The teenager impressed in the Blues first team last season after his promotion from the academy, scoring three goals and creating five assists in 26 senior appearances. However, the winger could find competition for minutes even tougher if Simons joins the group.

Reports claim that George is likely to leave Chelsea on loan for the 2025/26 season. It feels like a no-brainer for the English forward to go and play regularly elsewhere, but his long-term future feels under threat with the arrival of more high-profile individuals.
