Why Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea would actually be a smart signing as Blues fans fume over transfer reports

When the last transfer window closed, you would not have said that Chelsea needed another winger.

However, since then, Chelsea have lost Mykhailo Mudryk to suspension and the club have no idea when he will be available again.

It is one reason why it makes sense for another left winger to be signed this month, with Chelsea currently pursuing Alejandro Garnacho.

The Manchester United star will not be a lot of Chelsea supporters’ first-choice target, yet he could actually end up proving to be a good purchase.

Alejandro Garnacho fits Chelsea’s criteria

If you are Chelsea, then Garnacho is someone who ticks a lot of boxes for the recruitment team. At 20, the wide man is at the right age. He is young and has a lot of potential.

At the same time, Garnacho has a good amount of experience for someone his age and at a high level.

The Argentine has made 118 appearances for United, with 78 coming in the Premier League. In terms of what Garnacho can bring to the pitch, he can carry the ball well and arrive in threatening positions.

Over the last year, Garnacho has averaged 5.84 progressive carries and 8.14 touches in the attacking penalty area per 90 minutes.

His output can improve, with the United man scoring seven goals and providing four assists in the Premier League last season. But one of his strikes was that sensational overhead kick against Everton and at his age, there is plenty of time for him to develop into a more productive attacker.

There is a lot to like about Garnacho, though plenty of Chelsea fans will disagree.

Garnacho’s reported £60m price tag, for example, is one reason why some will not want him at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans do not want Alejandro Garnacho

Garnacho clearly has talent and potential, but Blues fans have made their feelings about the club potentially signing him clear.

On the social media platform X, one Chelsea fan said: “I don’t see Garnacho becoming a star player for Chelsea, honestly.”

Another posted: “I really don’t think Garnacho is the signing we need to be doing this window. Just another pointless signing in my opinion. It’s such a huge window for us. Top four is a must this season.”

One Chelsea supporter would prefer the club to sign Deportivo La Coruna’s Yeremay Hernandez. They said: “Yeremay Hernandez makes sense. Realistically this new Chelsea are not bringing in big boys any more. I would rather get him in than pay 50/60m for the likes of Garnacho!”

It has been reported that Chelsea have already made an offer for Hernandez, though it looks to have been unsuccessful.

Finally, one Chelsea fan made it clear that the club already have wingers better than Garnacho. They said: “All Chelsea wingers are literally better than Garnacho and we are considering signing him?”

For now, then, it does not look like Garnacho would be welcomed at Stamford Bridge.
