Alex Scott wants to join Chelsea, although a transfer this summer may be difficult, with Bournemouth determined not to sell the midfielder.
Whatever happens, Chelsea are going to have a core of talented English players next season, just as they have had in the past.
Rogers, Cole Palmer, Reece James and Levi Colwill will all be expected to start for the Club World Cup holders in the new campaign.
If Bournemouth’s stance softens, Scott could also join that core, while John Stones is another English player who could be an option for Alonso.
Chelsea have added Stones to their shortlist as they look to bolster their defence.
In the past, Chelsea have had an English spine of John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Joe Cole. Together, they were able to win Premier League titles.
This current Chelsea side do not look capable of challenging for the title next term. However, with this new core that Alonso is assembling, perhaps it could become a realistic target for them in the future.
For now, the aim will be to get back into the Champions League, and with a team that possesses Palmer, Rogers, James and Colwill, it should be an objective that is within reach.
Add Scott to the mix, and that is an even stronger squad. Will Chelsea make another bid for the Bournemouth man? With still plenty of time to go before the transfer window closes, this may not be the last we hear of their pursuit.
