Chelsea have been strongly linked with making a new signing to add to their already busy summer transfer window exploits.

According to reports, the Blues are keen on signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, despite completing deals for Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, whilst adding Estevao Willian to their ranks too.

Simons is desperate to make the move to Stamford Bridge, and certainly fits the club’s ethos of having individuals who can play in a number of roles across the attack.

The Dutchman has played on the left, however could be being targeted with the idea of featuring in a more traditional number 10 position.

Xavi Simons signing could see Cole Palmer move to the right for Chelsea

This position has normally been picked up by Cole Palmer since Enzo Maresca has been in charge, however the recent Club World Cup final showed the future could look very different.

The destruction of PSG saw the England international line up on the right of attack, linking up brilliantly with Malo Gusto and causing havoc, particularly in the first half.

Starting off wider and coming inside was a trademark of Palmer’s game during the time Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, where his numbers were significantly higher than his second campaign.

Getting the best out of their most impactful player should be Chelsea’s priority going into next season, and adding a central attacker who can also bring the levels up would be an excellent addition.

Chelsea’s chances of signing Simons

The Blues have been told it will cost less than £60m to sign the Netherlands international, and they have been handed a boost when it comes to competing sides.

Simons would rather join Chelsea than Arsenal, who have also been linked with a move for the attacker.

However, the Blues are going to likely need to part ways with a number of their current players in order to make another addition, with Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix on the chopping block.

One player who is not set to leave permanently is Marc Guiu, with the club preferring to see the youngster leave on loan to another club in England.
