Bayern Munich supporters were celebrating a 3-1 win against Chelsea on Wednesday night in their opening group phase match of this season’s Champions League. However, they did find room to appreciate the talents of opposition player Cole Palmer at the Allianz Arena.

Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season in midweek, losing on their trip to Germany.

Even though the Blues showed a lot of positive things on their return to the Champions League competition, Bayern ultimately punished them for sloppy mistakes to clinch three points. It should be a great learning curve for Enzo Maresca’s young side about competing against Europe’s elite teams.

While Cole Palmer may have ended up on the losing side last night, his stock definitely went up with a magical individual display.

The 23-year-old attacker scored a superb left-footed goal in the first half and had a second chalked off for offside late on. In fact, German media raved about Palmer because of his brilliance in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich fans amazed by Cole Palmer’s display against them

Bayern supporters on X delivered a glowing verdict on Chelsea’s Palmer after his eye-catching performance against them on the European stage.

One fan wrote: “One has to say, unfortunately, that Palmer is really absolutely insane, wow.”

“Palmer really is insanely good,” another commented.

One supporter posted: “With €2billion, you might be able to buy yourself some great individual players like Palmer, but you’ll never be able to assemble a team with heart, character, courage, and personality, and that’s exactly why we took the three points with us here today.”

“Cole Palmer almost makes me feel sorry for him. A really good footballer – and then he has to play for Chelsea,” another said.

Finally, one fan shared: “Palmer is just the best big game player ever. The way he scans his entire surroundings while running right in front of the goal and then the finish… Wow.”

Now that Palmer has the chance to shine in the Champions League, we expect his reputation to soar even higher.

The left-footed playmaker, who shone on the right wing against Bayern, has had a memorable first 100 appearances in Chelsea colours. He certainly belongs in the conversation alongside some of the world’s most gifted footballers right now.

Palmer, who avoided injury against Bayern, is such a fundamental part of the Blues XI. We’re expecting big things from him this weekend when his side travel to a struggling Manchester United team in the Premier League.

What Cole Palmer said after Bayern Munich loss

After Chelsea’s defeat against Bayern, Palmer reiterated that his side are in this season’s Champions League to compete against the best.

“We’re not in this competition for it to be a learning curve for us. I feel like we showed tonight that we can compete and we want to do as best as we can,” Palmer said, as quoted by Chelsea’s official website.

On paper, Chelsea’s trip to Munich looks like the toughest of their eight matches in the league phase. Let’s wait and see how they respond in their next European matches, starting with hosting Benfica on 30 September.

Owen Hargreaves praised Palmer for always showing up in the big games, so fans should be excited to see much more from him in this year’s Champions League.
