Enzo Fernandez hasn’t been in the good books of many with his performances this season, but Chelsea supporters all noticed something after his display against Manchester United.
Enzo Maresca opted for Rome Lavia and Moises Caicedo in the middle for the Manchester United clash, and it worked in the first half before the pair were exposed at times in the second.
Chelsea have one of the best squad depths in the Premier League, which allows them to leave a player of Enzo Fernandez‘s stature out, putting his recent struggles aside.
Interestingly, Maresca suggested that he’s not going to just play Fernandez because he’s worth around £100 million, and he’s perfectly right, as the players should be picked on merit.
However, after being substituted on against Manchester United on Sunday evening, Chelsea fans noticed one thing about his performance.

Enzo Fernandez’s performance in numbers against Man United
Enzo Fernandez came off the substitutes’ bench to appear for 20 minutes.
He managed just 18 touches, a passing accuracy of 67%, won his only ground duel, was fouled once and lost possession of the ball five times (SofaScore).
Those stats don’t really tell the story, as he looked fairly bright on the ball, and things improved with him and Moises Caicedo in the middle. A sense of calmness was instilled.
The one thing that went against him was the golden chance he squandered by sticking the ball over the crossbar at a vital time, but he wasn’t the only one, as Noni Madueke will also be kicking himself.
Chelsea fans notice one thing about Enzo Fernandez’s display against Manchester United
Many Chelsea fans took to X to talk about how improved their side looked once Enzo Fernandez came onto the pitch.
“Enzo Fernandez was actually good when he came on. Got himself on the ball and looked to pass forwards at every opportunity. No pouting and feeling sorry for himself for being a sub.”, @Khaya__ said.
@xDirewolf_02 thought he added a sense of calmness: “Enzo was decent when he came on looked very calmer on the ball than almost anyone else.”
@Tresuud stated: “Enzo was good I don’t know why this fanbase always look for a scape goat and try to dampen their confidence the more. Man was bright and looked to create chances. Anyone hating on Enzo needs to take a break off FT.”
@AliShayan98 mentioned: “Looked much better when Enzo came on”
“Lavia was poor pal. We looked far better when Enzo came on. Needed Nkunku to come on for Jackson if we wanted to win it.”, @grecian1993 said Fernandez actually made the team better.
@Cfc_ro09 commented: “No one will admit it but we looked so much better with Enzo on.”
