It does not look like Cole Palmer was completely satisfied with his performance in Chelsea’s win against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Cole Palmer helped Chelsea to beat Newcastle 2-1, scoring his side’s winning goal at the start of the second half.
It was his seventh goal of the season, meaning only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo have outscored him in the Premier League.
| Premier League top scorers | Number of goals |
| Erling Haaland | 11 |
| Bryan Mbeumo | 8 |
| Cole Palmer and Chris Wood | 7 |
Nevertheless, the attacking midfielder still feels that he can improve. Alan Smith was impressed with Palmer, though, after a stunning pass he made in the first half that led to Chelsea’s opener.

Cole Palmer on Chelsea’s lack of control
For Palmer, Chelsea did not control their latest game well enough. He feels that the team, including himself, made too many inaccurate long passes.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after the match, Palmer said: “I think we needed to control the game a bit better, giving too many long passes away, myself included.”
Palmer had a bit of a different role against Newcastle on Sunday, with Enzo Maresca having him operate in the left pocket.
It worked, with the 22-year-old’s goal coming from a position on the left. Maresca will be hoping that he can be as impactful when Chelsea take on Manchester United at Old Trafford this Sunday.
Cole Palmer being harsh on himself
Palmer is not only Chelsea’s main goalscorer, be he is also the team’s chief playmaker.
Palmer already has five assists this season and is making 2.8 key passes per game, which is the highest average in his squad, according to WhoScored.
It is only natural that he is going to lose possession now and again as he attempts adventurous passes to try and unlock defences.
It is a good sign, though, that Palmer was not completely happy with his latest performance. It shows that the England international knows he can improve and desires to.
