Enzo Fernandez proved to be the difference in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Leicester City on Saturday.
It was Enzo Fernandez who set up Nicolas Jackson for Chelsea‘s opening goal in the first half before he scored a header in the 75th minute.
The midfielder had lost his spot in Enzo Maresca‘s starting XI, but he has now laid down a marker after his fantastic performance at the King Power Stadium.
After the game, the English media gave Fernandez eights and above for his display against Steve Cooper’s men.

Janusz Michallik on Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea
Chelsea’s win against Leicester was a game where the visitors dominated. They had 63.3% ball possession, leaving the home side with just 36.7%.
Ultimately, for former USA international Janusz Michallik, Chelsea’s approach to the match and the kind of game it was really suited Fernandez.
Speaking on ESPN FC after the full-time whistle, he said: “From the very, very beginning, the very first whistle, I mean it was just basically Chelsea in Leicester’s half right, so that suited Enzo Fernandez — fair play to him.”
Michallik later went on to add: “We all know that Enzo Fernandez can open up defences and when a game is this tight, when you have a team like Leicester City that’s basically camped in their own penalty area for the most part, this is his game.”
Fernandez dazzled Joe Cole with his display, with the Chelsea legend claiming that Leicester’s midfield could not get anywhere near him on the day.
What Enzo Maresca said about Enzo Fernandez’s performance
Understandably, after scoring one goal and registering an assist, Maresca was also impressed with Fernandez.
Maresca spoke about Fernandez specifically after the game, telling reporters: “Today I thought was the right game to use Enzo even if he was back from international duty [late]. I think he did very well.”
Chelsea’s next match in the Premier League is against Aston Villa, who will pose much more of a threat than Leicester.

They have an extremely talented midfield and attack, consisting of the likes of Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana and Ollie Watkins.
It means Maresca could be tempted to throw Romeo Lavia back into the side to provide more physicality. However, after how well Fernandez played against Leicester, it would be harsh if he was dropped.
The Chelsea manager could always start Fernandez, Lavia and Moises Caicedo together, but it would see one of the team’s attackers lose their spot in the side, most likely Noni Madueke.
