Jason Cundy applauded Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson after his overall display in Saturday’s win over Luton Town.

Chelsea had to survive a late scare in this afternoon’s Premier League match away to Luton, but they eventually ran out 3-2 winners at Kenilworth Road.

The Blues have signed off from a turbulent 2023 with back-to-back wins over Luton and Crystal Palace.

Cole Palmer, who’s been the club’s outstanding player this season, was the hero with two goals. He assisted Noni Madueke’s strike, too.

Let’s hope Mauricio Pochettino’s side can kick on and find some consistency in the second half of the season.

Jason Cundy praise

Jason Cundy thinks Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson deserves big credit for his individual contribution against Luton.

The 22-year-old attacker, starting as the left-winger, was very busy throughout. He even laid on Palmer’s winning goal with an excellent pass.

Speaking via coverage on Chelsea’s 5th Stand App (2:10pm, 30 December), Cundy said: “Some of Jackson’s hold up play and build up play has been excellent… Jackson, who I felt was tiring a little bit, but I’ve got to tell you he’s made me look a bit of a fool.”

Nicolas Jackson against Luton

Jackson’s come under-fire at times for criticism so far this season, but he caught the eye in Chelsea’s win today.

Chelsea fans on social media were all saying that Jackson looked a lot better on the wing versus Luton.

He seemed to really enjoy the freedom off coming off the touchline and drifting infield. Meanwhile, Armando Broja filled the central striker role.

We know Jackson’s off to the Africa Cup of Nations in the New Year with Senegal, but perhaps we’ve seen an insight into how he could be used by Chelsea moving forward for the rest of the season.

There’s less pressure on him to score goals from a wide role. He’s still got all the attributes to impact games, though.
