Graham Potter explains what Moises Caicedo is so good at after Chelsea’s draw with Man United

Moises Caicedo is a player whom former Chelsea manager Graham Potter knows well.

Graham Potter did not get the chance to work with Moises Caicedo during his time as Blues boss.

However, the 49-year-old managed him when he was at Brighton & Hove Albion so is very aware of his quality.

That quality was on display in Chelsea‘s 1-1 draw with Manchester United after Caicedo scored one of the goals of the season. Enzo Maresca feels that Caicedo has really improved since he arrived in west London.

Graham Potter on Moises Caicedo

Potter had a lot of praise for Caicedo after his display at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Englishman spoke highly of his former player’s character but also highlighted the things that he is extremely good at doing on the pitch.

“He’s a really nice person,” Potter was quoted as saying by the Premier League’s official website. “Humble, wants to learn and improve and fight for the team. As a human being he’s top, really pleased for him.

“I think it’s only natural that there’s pressure. The team is trying to function better than it was, he’s come in at £100m or whatever it was and you expect a lot for that type of money. Moises isn’t really that type of player.

“Most of the time he’s the guy who lets other players play better, gets in good positions, can deal with big spaces, wins the ball back. Now you’re seeing the quality that he has.”

Jody Morris thinks Caicedo has been Chelsea’s most consistent player this season. He has been an ever-present under Maresca, starting all 10 of the Blues’ Premier League fixtures so far.

Moises Caicedo justifying transfer fee

Caicedo is the most expensive signing in Premier League history, joining Chelsea from Brighton in a £115m deal.

It is an obscene amount of money, yet Caicedo is actually starting to look worth that fee.

If you look at his defensive stats, for example. Caicedo has made the most tackles and interceptions (48) in the Premier League this season, according to FBref.

Compared to other midfielders of his profile, the 23-year-old is the best in England at this moment in time.

The same cannot be said about Enzo Fernandez, who has been dropped by Maresca. Caicedo is now being partnered by Romeo Lavia in the middle of the pitch.

Jason Cundy wasn’t too impressed with Fernandez’s last start, which came against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, but he still has time to turn his Chelsea career around, just as Caicedo has done.
