Chelsea’s Cole Palmer was the best player on the pitch during this evening’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

That is according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.

Chelsea yet again showed signs of their improvement under Mauricio Pochettino by taking a point from their Premier League fixture at home to Arsenal. In fact, they should’ve won the contest on the balance of play.

However, the Blues managed to throw away a two-goal advantage in the final 15 minutes, much to the frustration of supporters. It was a team performance that should still help grow confidence within the camp.

Chelsea show real quality

We watched a lot of Chelsea’s players compete and outclass Arsenal’s stars for a large portion of today’s league match.

In particular, Cole Palmer caught the eye for his individual display.

Jamie Redknapp agreed that the £40million Blues star (Sky Sports) stood out for all the right reasons.

“I really have so much respect for this young man for going, ‘I want to take this penalty’. He stood up… He’s been the best player on the pitch. He deserves that,” Redknapp told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (6:28pm, 21 October).

He later added (7:40pm): “He also looked like their classiest player.”

Cole Palmer emerging rapidly

Palmer’s been quietly impressing in the opening few games of his Chelsea career, but his latest performance against high-profile opposition should bring him more into the spotlight.

On top of his converted penalty kick, the 21-year-old really impressed for the Blues with his performance.

The left-footed attacker is naturally a right-winger who’s great drifting infield from the byline. He showed his versatility by operating as a false-nine versus Arsenal, though.

It’s pretty obvious that Palmer’s got a very high football IQ with the positions he picks up on the pitch.

Gary Neville agreed on Sky Sports that Palmer caused Arsenal all sorts of problems in this weekend’s game.

A lot of people have been quick to criticise all of Chelsea’s transfers in the past 18 month, but they may have struck gold with Palmer.
