Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has now shared whether he believes that Christopher Nkunku will be able to make his debut for the Blues tomorrow night.

He claimed during his pre-match press conference that the Frenchman trained really well today, and could now feature in some capacity in the EFL Cup tomorrow.

They will face Newcastle United only a few weeks after they were embarrassed against the same opposition in the Premier League.

Injuries have continued to hit the Blues hard this season, with their bad luck stemming all the way back to pre-season.

Nkunku had been enjoying a strong tour of the United States before he was forced off with an injury in the final fixture of pre-season against Borussia Dortmund.

Nkunku could play tomorrow

As we approach the final two games before Christmas, the 26-year-old has not been seen yet in a competitive appearance.

He made the bench at the weekend to face Sheffield United, with everyone in attendance at Stamford Bridge eager to see exactly what he can do.

However, second half goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson saw the Blues not actually need to rely on his presence from the bench.

Pochettino has now shared whether he thinks the player will be involved tomorrow night.

He said: “Lavia, still no. Christoph trained well today. Maybe we have the possibility to be involved in some minutes.

“How I see today, I think he could play 20 minutes. I need to be 100%. To see him in the warm up and part of the team, that was amazing. But 1% in the back of my mind I didn’t know if this was right moment [against Sheffield United].

With the EFL Cup presenting the clear best chance for a trophy this season for the Blues, playing their best side would certainly be recommended at Stamford Bridge.
