Joe Cole singled out Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher for big praise after his performance in the win over Fulham.

Chelsea fans are now celebrating four victories from their last five Premier League matches after today’s success in the West London derby.

The Blues edged out rivals Fulham by a 1-0 scoreline at Stamford Bridge, which has moved them up to eighth in the league table. Cole Palmer was the difference between the teams with his first-half penalty.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side now focus on the domestic cup competitions in their next couple of games, but the signs of progress in the league are there for everyone to see.

Joe Cole mentioned Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in a positive way straight after the Fulham result.

He really enjoyed the 23-year-old’s display at the weekend. Also, he noted that the club must keep him amid speculation of a potential exit.

“Conor Gallagher was outstanding again and that is another conundrum the club has to solve. He must wear a Chelsea shirt come February, that’s for sure,” Cole told TNT Sports 1 (2:32pm, 13 January).

Our initial reaction is Cole’s praise on Gallagher’s individual contribution was a bit overboard. We’d grade his display a 6/10, possibly verging on a 7/10.

The England midfielder worked his socks off as always, particularly with some great pressing on Fulham’s defenders. However, he still can’t find the back of the net this season despite getting in the right positions. He put one effort over the bar, plus hit the post with a curled effort in the second-half.

What we can agree on is that Gallagher must be kept at Stamford Bridge, though!

The Independent said earlier this week that Tottenham consider Gallagher as a priority target as they increase plans to sign a new midfielder in January. Also, the report mentioned that Chelsea may consider selling him for around £50million.
