Andy Townsend was not too impressed with one thing Raheem Sterling did in Chelsea’s game with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea could have gone into half-time with a 1-0 lead had Raheem Sterling converted a one-on-one or passed the ball to Cole Palmer.

Instead, the 29-year-old shot straight at Jose Sa, a decision Andy Townsend was disappointed with. The pundit’s comments were shared on the Premier League’s official website.

Next up for Chelsea, who will now be without Sterling because of suspension, is the visit of Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

For Townsend, Sterling had to pass the ball instead of taking the shot.

The former Chelsea midfielder said: “What a chance that is. He has to pass it. You have to slip it, you have to make sure at 0-0. That is really poor play from a guy who has started the game well. I’m surprised at that decision.”

Chelsea’s poor execution

A lot of times this season, Chelsea’s attackers have failed to play the right ball or fire a good enough shot.

It has happened in games against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Brentford, fixtures they failed to score in, and the above was on show at Molineux today.

It is something that Mauricio Pochettino has to fix, or else his side face another finish in the bottom half of the table.

Signing a new striker when the transfer window opens next month could help them, though Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is one name who will not be on the market.

While the Nigerian has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, he has just signed a new contract, making a January switch extremely unlikely.

The Blues will now have to sign someone else or Pochettino is going to have to come up with some sort of formula to make his team more clinical.
