Chelsea failed to score in their defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup last night.
Enzo Maresca‘s men lost 2-0, with Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer critical of what he saw. Shearer felt that the visitors took too much of a gamble at the back as they kept trying to play the ball out.
Chelsea‘s attack also came under fire after they missed some good chances during the match.
Chelsea fans slammed Joao Felix for his display, while Christopher Nkunku did not have the best game either.

Darren Ambrose on Christopher Nkunku
Nkunku has been on fire for Chelsea in their cup games this season, scoring seven goals in total.
| Competition | Goals |
| Carabao Cup | 3 |
| Conference League | 4 |
However, he had a quiet night against Newcastle, failing to add to his tally. Speaking on Sky Sports during the game, Darren Ambrose said: “It’s just not happening for Nkunku in front of goal tonight.”
Nkunku has also scored one goal in the Premier League this season, a match-winner against Bournemouth, showing that he is capable of finding the back of the net. But the 26-year-old had a game to forget at St James’ Park. Felix recently claimed that it’s easy playing alongside Nkunku.
No chance of Christopher Nkunku starting at Old Trafford
Chelsea’s next game is against Manchester United in the Premier League. It was always unlikely that Nkunku would start that match.
Nicolas Jackson is Chelsea’s first-choice striker right now and is in top form. In the nine Premier League appearances that the 23-year-old has made this season, he has scored six goals.
However, after failing to make much of an impact against Newcastle, there is now probably no chance of Nkunku getting the nod at Old Trafford.
Chelsea spent big money on Nkunku, paying RB Leipzig £52m for his services. This is the type of game they probably bought him for.
Injuries and the form of Jackson and Cole Palmer, though, have seen the Frenchman become a bench player at Stamford Bridge.
