The goalscoring heroics of Tosin Adarabioyo were perhaps the biggest surprise in Chelsea’s win against Morecambe this weekend.

Chelsea secured an impressive 5-0 victory at home to League Two side Morecambe in the third round of the FA Cup.

Blues defender Tosin Adarabioyo scored a goal in each half to the surprise of most people. The 27-year-old’s first strike had plenty of good fortune after a deflection, but the second effort arrowed in from another attempt outside the box.

Tosin is a successful Chelsea summer signing because he’s proven his value to the squad as a decent option at centre-back. He’s now made 17 appearances across all competitions so far during his debut season with the Blues, scoring three times.

Tosin Adarabioyo responds to crowd shouts

Tosin has admitted that he did hear supporters shouting from the Stamford Bridge crowd to shoot whenever he had possession when he was on a hat-trick. The centre-half was really disappointed that he couldn’t do what they asked, though.

When asked about the fans shouting to shoot every time he touched the ball, Adarabioyo told BBC’s Match of the Day: “I heard it a couple of times when I got the ball on the halfway line. I wanted to but I was too far out.”

“Playing games and being able to showcase your abilities is always great, so it was nice to do that one today.”

Unusually, Tosin was allowed plenty of possession outside the Morecambe box as the League Two club sat in a deep defensive block. His willingness to take on shots from distance did pay off with two goals.

The two-goal display should act as a much-needed boost for the central defender.

Tosin was poor in Chelsea’s recent league defeat to Ipswich Town, which resulted in him dropping to the bench for last weekend’s draw versus Crystal Palace. Based on the weekend, it looks like Josh Acheampong may have jumped ahead of him in the defensive pecking order for the Premier League.

Tosin enjoys perfect day at the office

A clean sheet, two goals, and a 5-0 victory represent a perfect day for Chelsea defender Tosin.

The fact that Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana is out injured for the rest of the season means that they’re crying out for options in the heart of defence.

As it stands, 18-year-old prospect Acheampong may get a run next to ever-present Levi Colwill. However, Tosin should be setting his sights on the starting position on the league.
