It goes from bad to worse for Chelsea in the Premier League because they were beaten again this weekend by Brighton. Unsurprisingly, senior figures appeared to be fuming after the result.
Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat against Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, which follows up from last weekend’s 2-1 loss away to Manchester United.
It is now two wins, two draws and two defeats for Enzo Maresca’s side to begin the 2025/26 season, so it is obvious that there are several issues that need fixing.
Jason Cundy criticised a “terrible” second half from Chelsea in the Brighton loss. They were actually leading the contest after a decent first half, but Trevoh Chalobah’s red card turned the game on its head in the second period.
It is alarming that the Blues have lost three times to Brighton in 2025 across all competitions.

Chelsea figures march to dressing room after Brighton loss
Journalist Matt Law reports via X that several senior figures at Chelsea marched straight to the home dressing room after losing against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
This included co-owner Behdad Eghbali, along with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart. In addition, recruitment heads Joe Shields and Sam Jewell were part of the entourage.
Of course, we don’t know what was said inside the dressing room after the latest defeat to Brighton. We would expect there to be some fireworks, though.
Eghbali is viewed as the most influential Chelsea owner, so he’s definitely someone that Maresca and the rest of the Chelsea players should want to keep happy.
The reality is that the Blues still have two very tough matches before October’s international break. They host Benfica (Champions League) and Liverpool (Premier League) next week. It is worth adding that Cole Palmer is unavailable until after October’s internationals because of his current groin injury.

Enzo Maresca can’t prepare for back-to-back red cards
We do have sympathy for Blues head coach Maresca because his side have lost their discipline recently.
Robert Sanchez’s early red card in the Man Utd defeat was a killer. The fact they have followed it up in the next league game with Chalobah’s dismissal is unforgivable.
Even though Chelsea’s owners are supportive of Maresca, it feels like the fanbase are getting a little restless with how the season has started. He could really do with a bit more help from his players on the pitch to lessen the damage.
