Despite an extremely busy summer transfer window, it turns out that Chelsea were already looking ahead to January.
It was a hectic time at Stamford Bridge this summer for Chelsea, both in terms of incomings and outgoings. Eventually, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has been left with a talented young squad, but they may already be feeling the effects of the Club World Cup with several injury problems.
Chelsea feel they are stronger this season compared to last year, so let’s wait and see where they end up.

Chelsea have transfer funds to spend in January
Blues fans may be excited to hear the club’s hierarchy had one eye on January when they acted in the summer transfer window.
According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea made sure to leave cash in their reserves this summer so they can spend in the January window if they need to improve an area of the pitch.
The report adds that a decision on any mid-season spending will be made closer to the time.
It was reported earlier this month that Maresca has concerns over two positions, goalkeeper and centre-half, so the club could be ruthless in the transfer market when January comes around.
While we like the overall talent in the squad, it feels obvious that the backline is a problem area. Levi Colwill’s absence with an ACL injury has left a gigantic hole in central defence. In addition, Robert Sanchez continues to be an inconsistent option as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Who makes the key decisions at Chelsea?
On Monday, journalist Nizaar Kinsella provided useful analysis on BBC Sport regarding who makes the decisions on Chelsea’s board.
Apparently, Behdad Eghbali is the most influential individual within the club’s ownership group. Todd Boehly and Jose E. Feliciano have some influence, too.
In terms of day-to-day activity, co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart arguably have the most influence in football.
Unless something drastically changes from now until January, the attention should be on making significant upgrades at the back. The fact that they have cash to spend means that the supporters will be expectant and hopeful.
