What Carney Chukwuemeka did to the Chelsea bench before coming on against Barrow

Carney Chukwuemeka got his first minutes of the season in Chelsea’s 5-0 win against Barrow on Tuesday night.

Enzo Maresca has overlooked Carney Chukwuemeka this term, with the Chelsea manager having plenty of other midfield and attacking options.

In the Barrow game, though, he was able to give Chukwuemeka some minutes. And the 20-year-old will be hoping for some more, with Chelsea now into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and having fixtures to play in the Conference League.

He did not get too long on the pitch, but Maresca was pleased with what he saw from Chukwuemeka.

Carney Chukwuemeka was desperate to get onto the pitch

It may have only been a third-round tie in the Carabao Cup against League Two opposition, but Chukwuemeka was dying to get involved in the game.

According to LondonWorld, Chukwuemeka kept glancing towards the Chelsea bench while warming up, waiting to get the nod from Maresca to come on.

That eventually came in the 74th minute, and the former Aston Villa youngster will now be hoping that he gets a bit longer in the fourth round. Of course, that could depend on whom Chelsea get in the draw tonight.

If Chukwuemeka continues to see little action in a blue shirt, then a move in January could be possible. Crystal Palace tried to sign Chukwuemeka in the last transfer window, so perhaps that could be one avenue for him.

Carney Chukwuemeka likely to be left out of Brighton & Hove Albion game

Before Chelsea’s victory over Barrow, Chukwuemeka failed to make any of their matchday squads this season.

The Blues’ next game is against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League, so you would now expect Chukwuemeka to drop back out.

It will disappoint the England youth international, but Maresca will argue that he has little choice, given all of the options he has.

There may be no room for Cesare Casadei, who started the Barrow game, either. Maresca was seen giving Casadei clear instructions during Chelsea’s triumph at Stamford Bridge.
