Chelsea were looking to pick up their first points of the new Premier League campaign when they took on Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home at Molineux Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Enzo Maresca’s side kicked off their Premier League season with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge in London last Sunday.
City, who have won the league title for the past four seasons, were the better side and convincingly saw off the Blues.
Chelsea, though, bounced back from that defeat with a 2-0 victory over Swiss club Servette at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off tie on Thursday.
Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke scored the goals for the Blues, who were keen on winning against Wolves at Molineux Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.
And they did just that. Chelsea hammered Wolves 6-2, with Madueke scoring a hat-trick.
We covered the Premier League match between Wolves and Chelsea live here on The Chelsea Chronicle, and you can re-live the action below.

“He had some good moments today but the reason why was to change it and give Pedro some minutes.”

As you would expect, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was very pleased with Noni Madueke’s performance, but he has noted what he did not like about him today.
Maresca said: “In the first 10 minutes he had two chances and overall he was very good. The only thing I didn’t like from Noni is the free-kick he gave away before half-time and we can avoid that. especially against a team who are good from set-pieces.”

FULL TIME: Wolves 2-6 Chelsea – Nicolas Jackson reaction to Wolves fans
Noni Madueke is going to steal all the headlines now, but we should not forget that Nicolas Jackson scored too.
After Jackson scored, he did not hold back in making it clear to Wolves fans what he thought of them.

“Noni Madueke has caused him all sorts of problems so far in this game, he combined well there with Cole Palmer, a lovely backheeled pass too.”

Clinton Morrison has picked two Chelsea players for praise – Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer.
Morrison said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “It is a great day for Chelsea. In the second half they were outstanding, moving the ball one and two touch. It will take some time for Enzo Maresca to get the squad to gel but it was an incredible second-half performance, Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer were the two best players on the pitch.”

Wow, just wow! What a game that was!
Chelsea were very, very clinical and took advantage of some very poor defending from Wolves.
Noni Madueke had one of the best games in his career, while Cole Palmer showed once again why he is a superstar in the making.

“It was excellent from Chelsea, a nice pick out from Pedro Neto for Joao Felix and it is a brilliant first time finish. Chelsea have been cooking in this second half.”

SECOND HALF: Wolves 2-6 Chelsea – Felix scores
Chelsea have added another goal to their tally now. This time it is Felix who has found the back of the net.
Neto is set away down the left, and he lays it off perfectly to Felix. The Chelsea attacker side-footed the ball beyond Sa.

[Link]SECOND HALF: Wolves 2-4 Chelsea
BBC Sport pundit Clinton Morrison has been impressed with Chelsea’s fourth goal.
Morrison said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “It is a brilliant goal for Chelsea.
“Rayan Ait-Nouri does not want to defend, he is better going forward and has been all over the place positionally. Noni Madueke continues to cause loads of problems, Cole Palmer times the ball perfectly and it is a brilliant finish.
“Wolves are all over the place defensively and they have it all to do now.”

This has been a very exciting game. Wolves have been defensively poor, but Chelsea have taken their chances.

Much against the run of play, Chelsea have taken the lead against Wolves.
And it’s Cole Palmer who has put the Blues back ahead at Molineux Stadium.
Chelsea play the ball downfield, Nicolas Jackson helped it on, and then Palmer weaved his magic.
The Chelsea and England international star looked up and then went for a left-footed lob over the head of Jose Sa.
It’s a sensational goal!

Chelsea are on the backfoot now. Wolves almost scored their second goal of the match.
Cunha has smashed the crossbar. Chelsea are reliefed.
[Link]FIRST HALF: Wolves 1-1 Chelsea
One Chelsea player who is struggling against Wolves is Moises Caicedo.
He lost possession, and that eventually led to the goal from Wolves. Caicedo needs to step up.

FIRST HALF: Wolves 1-1 Chelsea
We have now had the first yellow card of the match.
Rayan Ait-Nouri has gone into the referee’s book for a foul on Cole Palmer.
While Ait-Nouri did well for Wolves’ goal, Noni Madueke has caused him problems so far in the first half.
[Link]FIRST HALF: Wolves 1-1 Chelsea
Clinton Morrison was impressed with Rayan Ait-Nouri’s effort for the goal from Wolves.
Morrison said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Rayan Ait-Nouri was outstanding there.
“I was thinking he should have played it to Hwang Hee-chan down the right hand side but instead he played a great reverse ball to Matheus Cunha who swept it home.
“Great finish and an even better celebration, a little Brazilian samba dance.”

Wolves have restored parity now. It is 1-1 in the Premier League game.
Moises Caicedo was stripped of the ball, and Rayan Ait-Nouri carried it to the edge of the area.

[Link]FIRST HALF: Wolves 0-1 Chelsea – Chance after chance
This is fascinating stuff between Wolves and Chelsea. Both teams are going at it.
Madueke’s attempt was saved by Sa, and the ball eventually came to Palmer, who failed to get a proper control of the ball.
Wolves then break, but Strand Larsen’s cross is too much.

Cunha smashed it into the net, but the flag is up because Strand Larsen was in an offside position.
[Link]FIRST HALF: Wolves 0-1 Chelsea – Mykhailo Mudryk playing well
Pundit Clinton Morrison has been impressed with Mykhailo Mudryk so far and has praised him.
Morrison said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Chelsea look good, they look slick. Their one and two-touch passing is excellent, Wolves can’t get anywhere near them. Enzo Fernandez has started well in central midfield and Mykhailo Mudryk looks a threat.”
[Link]FIRST HALF: Wolves 0-1 Chelsea
Wolves may be a goal down, but they are not out of the game.
They are asking questions of the Chelsea defence, with Mosquera heading wide from a free header.
[Link]FIRST HALF: Wolves 0-1 Chelsea
It was an easy goal for Jackson, to be fair. And Wolves will be disappointed with the way they defended the corner.
BBC Sport pundit Clinton Morrison has said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “It has been a fantastic start from Chelsea.
“It was poor defending from Wolves, a defender flicks the corner ball on at the near post and Nicolas Jackson is there unmarked at the back post. How can you leave him with a free header there?
“You have to be there as a centre forward and Jackson was in the right place to tuck the ball in.”

FIRST HALF: Wolves 0-1 Chelsea – Blues take the lead
Chelsea are ahead after just two minutes. Nicolas Jackson has etched his name on the scoresheet.
Noni Madueke ran through and had a shot saved at the near post. The resulting corner was whipped in. Wolves forward Matheus Cunha flicked it on, and Nicolas Jackson headed in at the back post.

Wolves vs Chelsea build-up – Prediction time
I am going for a narrow 2-1 win for Chelsea. The Blues have a better team than Wolves, and I think that the London club will eke out a win.

Wolves vs Chelsea build-up – Why Romeo Lavia is missing
Maresca has explained his decision to keep Lavia out of the squad. He is injured, and the Chelsea boss did not want to risk him.
Wolves vs Chelsea build-up – Big chance for Cole Palmer
Cole Palmer will be deployed in the number 10 role against Wolves today, and former Chelsea star and BBC Sport pundit Pat Nevin has high expectations of him.
Nevin said on BBC Sport: “Joao Felix not starting today gives Cole Palmer a go in the number 10 position, which is so long overdue. Not only for Chelsea but also for England.
“He played against Man City last week and was bordering on anonymous for the majority of the game in the wide position. That doesn’t happen when you’re in the 10, the play should surely go through you. In time that is definitely the best position for him.”

Wolves vs Chelsea build-up – Paul Merson’s prediction
Former Arsenal striker Paul Merson has also predicted today’s match between Wolves and Chelsea to end in a 1-1 draw.
Merson wrote on SportsKeeda: “Enzo Maresca’s men are in desperate need of a result. I thought they were poor against City and barely left a glove on the champions. I’m going for a draw here against Wolves.
“Prediction: Wolves 1-1 Chelsea.”
[Link]Wolves vs Chelsea build-up – Chris Sutton’s prediction
BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton does not think that Chelsea will win today.
The former Chelsea striker has predicted the match today to end in a 1-1 draw.
Sutton wrote on BBC Sport:” It will be interesting to see the Chelsea team, Enzo Maresca has a big squad to pick from. But there will be no Raheem Sterling, he’s taken the number seven off him.
“Chelsea also play in the Conference League on Thursday night and I thought they were well beaten by Manchester City, but it has to click at some stage for them.
“Wolves had their moments against Arsenal and this one has draw all over it.
“Sutton’s prediction: 1-1.”
[Link]Wolves vs Chelsea build-up – Confirmed lineup analysis
The big talking point from the Chelsea lineup is that there is Romeo Lavia at all in the squad.
I wonder why Maresca has decided to leave him out. Perhaps the Chelsea boss thinks that it would be best for Lavia to rest given his injury problems.

While we wait for Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca to name his starting XI, let us try to predict how the Blues could line up.
We think that Filip Jorgensen will be in goal for the Blues and will have Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella in front of him in defence.
Enzo Fernandez will wear the captain’s armband, and we expect him to play a deeper role in midfield. Romeo Lavia will be alongside him in the middle of the park.
Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke could be the three attacking players, with Nicolas Jackson leading the line for Chelsea.

Chelsea’s start to the season has been mixed.
The Blues went down 2-0 to Manchester City in their opening Premier League game of the season.
To be fair, we expected City to win against Chelsea even at Stamford Bridge. After all, Pep Guardiola’s side are the best team in England.
On Thursday evening, though, Chelsea won in the UEFA Europa Conference League playoff tie.
Enzo Maresca’s side got the better of Servette 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the first leg.
