Ryan Kavuma-McQueen scores on first U21s start

In Chelsea’s victory over Man Utd in the Premier League 2, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen stole the headlines with his impressive contribution.

Kavuma-McQueen, who’s only aged 16, made his first-ever start for the Blues U21s team. He rewarded the faith shown in him by scoring his first goal at the level, firing in a low finish early in the contest.

Afterwards, Ato Ampah doubled Chelsea’s advantage just before half time to help clinch three points.

Kavuma-McQueen is an exciting teenage attacker who’s been impressive for the U18s side this campaign. Now, the English left-winger is beginning to make the step up to the U21s, where he’s mixing it with the best youngsters at the club.

The fact that he only turned 16 in January and is now scoring in the Premier League 2, is a testament to his huge potential.

There has been some suggestions that Chelsea youngsters worry about the first-team pathway because of the club’s bold transfer strategy in recent years. However, it should ease concerns when they see the amount of academy graduates in and around the senior group under Enzo Maresca this season.
