Reports from Germany have claimed one Chelsea loanee will certainly be returning to Stamford Bridge when this season comes to an end.

According to SportBILD, Union Berlin are not keen to make David Datro Fofana’s time at the club any longer than the current season loan he is on.

After a strong season for the Bundesliga side, the loan deal to a Champions League side looked a real positive one for Fofana.

However, their form has fallen off a cliff this season and they have already exited the European competition.

They even found themselves at one stage on a 12 game losing streak, before the Blues loanee struck in the Champions League to bring that run to an end.

Things have not been great both on and off the field for the striker. He was certainly not happy when he was substituted by the manager.

Fofana returning to Chelsea

In an attempt to blank the boss, he shoved past him and saw himself pick up an in-house suspension.

It looked as if there would be a brand new opportunity for him to make things work when the manager was sacked, with him now being replaced as the side continue to linger near the bottom of the table.

However, he has suffered a spell on the bench, and now appears to be out of favour in general.

His time there has been a microcosm of how the majority of loan spells have gone for some of Chelsea’s most promising players.

Andrey Santos is set to return to Stamford Bridge as early as January, with him hardly featuring at all for Nottingham Forest in any competition.

The move always looked strange based on the magnitude of signings the Premier league side make, and the fact that they had offers from side in the Champions League to take him too.
