Chelsea have signed pretty much all of their players on to long-term contracts to remain at the club for as long as they see fit.
It has been clear since Todd Boehly and co came in that they do not want players in the last year of their contract at Stamford Bridge, which is the main reason they pushed so hard to sell Conor Gallagher over the summer.
While the decision to offer contracts that are lasting in some cases into the 2030s could backfire if the player doesn’t prove his talents, it puts them in the power position if anyone decides they want to move on.
While this has not occurred yet, if results and performances don’t move on under Enzo Maresca from last season then there may be unrest amongst a large squad.
One of the first players they brought in on these long deals was Wesley Fofana, who is one of the remaining players from what is accepted as a failed first transfer window under the owners.

Wesley Fofana would love to play for Marseille after Chelsea
The Frenchman has claimed that he spoke to Marseille this summer over a potential move, and while it didn’t happen is a situation he would love to rediscover later in the future.
He told Free FOOT: “I had a conversation that really touched me. I would be lying if I said I didn’t weigh it up. It was from Benatia, Marseille’s sporting director.”
“It touched me and I think everyone knows why. I thought about it but there you go, the current objective is to succeed at Chelsea, to try and play regularly, and to establish myself at my club.”
“But OM, we’ll see one day. I still have a contract until 2029 and we’ll see after that. I have never hidden it, [Marseille] is my city, my club, I am an OM supporter. We’ll see if I end up being at Marseille in a few years, or if I stay at Chelsea for the rest of my career.”
Fofana starting alongside Levi Colwill
Fofana has started every Premier League game this season, something that will be a positive in itself after he didn’t kick a ball at all in the prior campaign.
He has started alongside Levi Colwill at the back, with the pairing beginning to form a promising partnership.
Colwill has praised Fofana during this international break, also mentioning how popular a figure he is at the club.
The aim now will be to continue to be fit enough for regular starts, so the France international can prove to everyone why Chelsea spent the fee they did on signing him.
