A video posted by Sky Sports’ Twitter page shows goalkeeper Edouard Mendy training with the Chelsea first team.

The 31-year-old has not been seen since before the World Cup, with a combination of factors seeing him not playing at all in that time period.

An injury has kept him out of training for the majority of this time, however he may well have not been playing even if he was fit.

Since Graham Potter has taken the manager’s job at Stamford Bridge, he has taken a far larger preference to Kepa Arrizabalaga between the sticks.

The Spain international has enjoyed a prolonged period in the first team, after it seemed that his Chelsea career was petering out in a depressing way.

Mendy back in training

He was sitting on the bench behind Mendy pretty much since the 31-year-old made the £22m switch from France.

However, news recently has suggested that the club are more open to selling the Senegal man than his counterpart in the position.

Nevertheless, the sight of Mendy back in training will be a boost to Potter, with competition never a bad thing for a position.

Despite his return, it will probably take a set of errors for the Spanish international to be dropped, given his impressive performances in recent months.

Even in the Champions League less than a week ago he was seen making a string of fine saves to help Chelsea on their way to a sensational turnaround against Borussia Dortmund.

With less than two years left on his contract, Mendy’s future is likely to be sorted at the end of the season. Reports have claimed that he is currently in no discussions to sign a new contract with the club, and is therefore likely to be on the move this summer.
