23-year-old Chelsea player seen embracing teammate in return to training, he’s only played once since October

Reece James has been seen in the club’s official gallery embracing Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz in his return to training.

The 23-year-old only managed just over a half in his return to club football after Christmas, where he looked emotional as he hobbled off.

He had previously not been seen since the 2-0 win over AC Milan at the San Siro back in October.

The knee injury ruled him out of the World Cup, where he was almost certain to play a key role for Gareth Southgate’s men.

Nevertheless, his focus now will be on returning to be part of Graham Potter’s plans as soon as possible, although not to a point where he aggravates his issue again.

There will no doubt be an element of excitement then amongst the Stamford Bridge faithful that he has been spotted on the club’s official website back in training.

Potter confirmed in his pre-match press conference yesterday that he was back doing individual work, with fellow flying full-back Ben Chilwell also back on the grass.

The Blues have sorely missed the English pair mostly for their attacking work, with creativity looking scarce without their presence.

James in particular has been difficult to replace. Potter has tried Cesar Azpilicueta, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and even Raheem Sterling in that role with little success.

There will be hopes that he is able to return soon, even if it is just for a familiar face to be on the pitch for new signing Joao Felix.

The Portugal international has already described James as an ‘amazing guy’ after the pair met in London before his winter move.

Even in the 45-minute spell he was back with the Blues against Bournemouth, they immediately looked a far stronger team going forwards, further showing his importance to the side.
