23-year-old is nowhere close to signing new contract, Chelsea want him this summer

Chelsea will be keeping a close eye on one target’s contract situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

Alphonso Davies and Bayern Munich are still far apart in talks over a new deal, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

It could be good news for Chelsea, who appear to have the left-back on their radar.

Back in November, another journalist, Simon Phillips, claimed that Chelsea were interested in him and that the club would keep an eye on his situation at the Allianz Arena.

The longer his contract saga drags on, the more their hopes of signing Davies will increase. They will have to be wary of Real Madrid, though, who are also thought to be keen on the player’s signature.

Alphonso Davies not close to signing new contract at Bayern Munich

It is starting to look increasingly likely that Davies will leave Bayern this summer. The German club will not want to run the risk of losing him for nothing in 2025 when his existing deal expires.

It is something that Chelsea need to try and take advantage of, as Mauricio Pochettino could really do with the arrival of a new left-back.

He has options right now in Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella, while Levi Colwill has shown this season that he can also play there.

However, Chilwell has not been able to stay fit for a couple of years now, picking up yet another injury earlier this month.

Signing Davies, then, is a no-brainer. The 23-year-old is one of the best attacking full-backs in the world.

This term, he is completing 2.7 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. Only Jamal Musiala (3.5) and Leroy Sane (3.6) have recorded higher averages than him in Thomas Tuchel’s squad (WhoScored).

The thought of Davies starting at left-back for Chelsea with Reece James or Malo Gusto on the opposite flank is quite a scary one. It would be great if the Blues could get a deal done in the summer.
