Chelsea are not in the Champions League, but former players and targets of the club appeared in the competition on Tuesday night.

For example, the likes of Christian Pulisic and Ian Maatsen featured for AC Milan and Aston Villa respectively, with the former Chelsea winger managing to score against Liverpool.

Michael Olise also played after being linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer. Chelsea were ready to trigger Olise’s release clause at Crystal Palace.

In the end, though, the 22-year-old ended up joining Bayern Munich in a £50m deal instead.

Michael Olise’s Champions League debut

Olise made his debut for France over the international break, starting in his country’s 3-1 defeat to Italy.

The winger has now made his first appearance in the Champions League and did not disappoint.

Harry Kane was the star of the show in Bayern’s incredible 9-2 win against Dinamo Zagreb after scoring four goals.

However, Olise also managed to impress after grabbing a brace. His two goals meant he was the first French player since Thierry Henry to score twice on his Champions League debut.

It was a reminder of what Chelsea have missed out on, but the Blues still managed to strengthen out wide over the summer after landing Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto.

Sancho has made an instant impact at Chelsea, assisting Christopher Nkunku’s winning goal against Bournemouth last weekend. Darren Bent was impressed with Sancho’s Chelsea debut.

Will Chelsea regret missing out on Michael Olise after Champions League impact?

It depends. If Sancho and Neto go on to become successes at Stamford Bridge, then Olise will be quickly forgotten.

But if they struggle while the former Palace man continues to dazzle, then questions are going to be asked.

It has not taken long for Sancho to show his talent in a blue shirt, while Neto is an experienced Premier League player. Therefore, you would expect the two to come good for Chelsea.
