Back at the start of the summer transfer window, all the talk at Stamford Bridge was around one player in particular.

Chelsea seemed desperate to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, after making great strides to do so the summer before so.

However, they decided to stick to their guns when it came to their wage structure, which also saw them not break the bank to sign Victor Osimhen on deadline day.

The Blues did still invest heavily on attackers over the summer, bringing in the likes of Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho.

However, Noni Madueke, who was already at the club, is the man who has forced himself into Enzo Maresca’s starting side in recent weeks.

Madueke says Olise is currently better than him

His brilliant form has seen him rewarded with his first senior England call-up under new manager Lee Carsley.

In a TikTok on TalkSPORT, Madueke was directly asked if he thinks he is better right now than Olise, who could well have been coming in to replace him at Chelsea.

He said: “You know what, I’m gonna give it to Michael, let’s give it to Michael.”

Madueke delivering for Chelsea

Madueke has actually delivered the statistical best performance in Europe this season, when he scored three to help Chelsea to their only Premier League win of the campaign so far against Wolves.

There is great competition for places on the flanks at Stamford Bridge right now, however the Englishman should feel confident that he has done enough up to now to earn a place in that starting side.

Him coming into the side has also given Enzo Maresca the opportunity to use Cole Palmer in a more central role, where he has thrived in the last two games.

Palmer will not be present for Madueke’s potential England debut after leaving the camp due to an ongoing concern, which Chelsea hope is not too serious.
