Chelsea’s midfield trio are seeming to finally at last find their feet at last.

The expensive duo of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have left some disappointed with what they have brought to the club at times this season, taking into account their price tags.

However, in recent weeks they have begun playing at a far higher level together, with the World Cup winner showing this season that he also has the goalscoring touch.

The pair have been joined with the strong performances by Conor Gallagher, who perhaps surprisingly to some will be one of the first names on the teamsheet when the Blues take part in the EFL Cup final at the weekend against Liverpool.

There was a big chance the midfield would be looking very different at Stamford Bridge right now if Mauricio Pochettino had got his first big transfer target over the line.

It was claimed that the boss was keen to bring in Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon, with his comments since on having midfielders with height and physicality making it very interesting.

However, PSG blew the Blues out the water as far as an offer for the player went, and he ended up moving to France to play Champions League football in a move worth £52m.

While his side remain in the competition and in a strong position in it, it is fair to say individually that he has struggled under the lights of the biggest challenge in club football.

This has now been further enforced by a statistic released by WhoScored which has him as the player with the worst success rate in ground duels this season.

He is the only player worse in the competition at this stat then Kai Havertz, who the Blues will still likely be happy to see the back of this season.
