Chelsea’s hard work across the last month certainly feels worth it after picking up a trophy at the weekend.
On Sunday, Chelsea thrashed Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final of the Club World Cup, winning their second piece of silverware during Enzo Maresca’s first season as the head coach. This one certainly felt a bit more special than the Conference League in May, too.
Chelsea’s players are being told to stay humble despite their success at the summer tournament.
Can this talented young Blues squad follow it up in the 2025/26 campaign with more steps in the right direction?

Alan Shearer picks six Chelsea players in his Club World Cup Team of the Tournament
During a segment on The Rest Is Football, Alan Shearer selected his Club World Cup Team of the Tournament, including six Chelsea players after their triumph.
| Position | Player | Club |
| Goalkeeper | Gianluigi Donnarumma | PSG |
| Right-back | Achraf Hakimi | PSG |
| Centre-back | Thiago Silva | Fluminense |
| Centre-back | Levi Colwill | Chelsea |
| Left-back | Marc Cucurella | Chelsea |
| Midfield | Enzo Fernandez | Chelsea |
| Midfield | Moises Caicedo | Chelsea |
| Midfield | Fabian Ruiz | PSG |
| Winger | Cole Palmer | Chelsea |
| Forward | Gonzalo Garcia | Real Madrid |
| Winger | Pedro Neto | Chelsea |
When selecting his Player of the Tournament, Shearer went with Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer.
The 23-year-old Blues ace also officially picked up the Golden Ball award, handed out to the competition’s best individual.
Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez called “Palmer the best in the world” immediately after his heroics in the Club World Cup final, where he scored two goals and assisted another against PSG.
PSG manager Luis Enrique hailed Palmer after the final with a two-word assessment.
The English playmaker, who can shine as a No.10 or a right-winger, tormented the Champions League holders in the 2025. It’s yet more proof that he’s not the type of player to shrink in a final.

Cole Palmer’s second season at Chelsea
Palmer was a breath of fresh air and took everyone by storm during his first season in Chelsea colours during the 2023/24 campaign. He immediately made Manchester City’s decision to sell him look like a costly mistake.
During his second year with the Blues, he followed it up with another outstanding term.
| Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 52 | 18 | 14 |
Palmer brilliantly carries the burden of being the poster boy for the current Chelsea team, and it’s up to others around him to match his levels.
While he did encounter a dip midway through last season for the first time in his Blues career, he managed to bounce back, ending the year very strongly and in style.
