Enzo Maresca will be thankful that most Chelsea players seemed to get through the international break relatively unscathed.

The Blues will be frustrated that Romeo Lavia had to withdraw due to injury, after they had been managing his minutes amongst his return from a long-term issue.

There is actually somewhat of a fitness issue in the middle of the park for Maresca to deal with ahead of a return to his former side, Leicester City, at the weekend.

The manager may look to give Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall his first Premier League start for the club if his South American duo were not at 100% after finishing their fixtures late on in the break.

Moises Caicedo stars in ‘historic’ Ecuador victory

Moises Caicedo thankfully only had one game to feature in, with that coming last night as Ecuador beat Colombia 1-0 away from home.

The result becomes even more impressive when taking into account they were down to 10 men in the first half.

El Futbolero mentioned Caicedo as one of the top performers for the South American side last night, with their World Cup qualifying win being described as ‘historic’.

They said: “The duel was difficult and yet they managed to come out ahead with a good performance in an important sector. Other names that stood out were WillianPacho and Moisés Caicedo, who left a good impression in their sectors.

“In a match that will go down in the history of Ecuadorian football, the Tricolor achieved a historic victory against Colombia in Barranquilla.”

Caicedo in Premier League Team of the Season so far

Caicedo’s brilliance for his country is just a continuation of what he has been showing while at Stamford Bridge this season.

Pundits have finally begun to give the Chelsea man credit for his top-level performances this season.

Alan Shearer has named Caicedo in his Team of the Season so far in the Premier League, where he featured alongside superstar Cole Palmer.

Lavia has described Caicedo as an ‘amazing’ player, and is no doubt learning a great deal from playing alongside him in big games for the Blues.
