Levi Colwill should finally get the chance to play his best position when Chelsea host Arsenal this weekend.

It’s been a really impressive breakout season so far for Levi Colwill in Chelsea’s first team, which is made even better by the fact that he’s been playing out of position.

The 20-year-old talent is making his mark in the Blues senior squad fresh off the back of a successful loan spell at Brighton last year.

We’ve seen Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino predominantly use him at left-back. In fairness, the youngster’s proving he is a versatile defender by slotting into the full-back role pretty effectively, something he’s done for England’s senior team as well.

However, the left-footer is a centre-back by trade and we’re pretty adamant his long-term future lies in the heart of Chelsea’s defence.

There’s a suggestion that Pochettino may be forced to shuffle his pack for this Saturday’s Premier League fixture at home to Arsenal, which could be fantastic news for Colwill.

This is because of the speculation which suggests Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi may be unavailable versus Arsenal.

The Evening Standard claimed this week that Disasi is ‘unlikely’ to be fit to play against Arsenal due to a thigh problem. They added he may not be back until November, too.

Chelsea’s go-to combination at centre-half this season has been Disasi and Thiago Silva, but any easy fix to the former’s expected absence this weekend is moving Colwill across to centre-back.

In our view, Silva and Colwill is the most obvious defensive partnership to start against Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Reece James or Malo Gusto could be back to fight for the starting right-back spot. You’ve got the pick of Marc Cucurella or Ian Maatsen on the opposite side at left-back.

Described as “amazing” by Pochettino via Football.London, Colwill can take his game up another level once he’s in the heart of defence. This weekend has presented itself as the perfect chance to get him back in his best position.

We’d much rather see an out-and-out left-back defend against Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka on Saturday.
