Andros Townsend hails Chelsea player who did one thing ‘like an expert’ against West Ham

Andros Townsend claims that he can already see a big improvement from one Chelsea player this season in one specific area.

It ended up being an underwhelming season last year at Chelsea, with the club failing to win any silverware and finishing sixth spot in the Premier League. It feels like there’s a bit more optimism in the early weeks of this campaign, though.

The Blues, who are under new management with Enzo Maresca in the dugout, currently sit fifth in the league table after a positive start.

Nicolas Jackson the finisher

Andros Townsend, who’s currently playing for Turkish club Antalyaspor, has paid tribute to Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson for his excellent start to this 2024/25 season. The Blues centre-forward has silenced a lot of critics recently with four goals in five games in the Premier League.

According to Townsend, Jackson is looking a much better finisher in front of goal in the early stages of this new campaign.

“Even last season watching Nicolas Jackson, he had everything but the goals. He had the movement, he had the dribbling, he was getting into some great positions but he just wasn’t finishing them off,” Townsend said on the BBC’s Monday Night Club.

“But, the goals he scored on the weekend were taken competently and confidently like an expert striker. We weren’t seeing that last season so maybe the early goals have done him the world of good and now we’re going to see this player who is going to be clinical when he gets chances in front of goal.”

Chelsea striker is improving

We agree that Jackson, who earns £120,000-a-week (Salary Sport) is looking sharper in front of goal. Can he keep this up consistently over the course of a full season, though?

The 23-year-old attacker is still relatively young and it’s something that’s often overlooked.

Jackson is definitely a rising talent getting better and better with more experience, so we’re optimistic this will be his best scoring season to date.

Jackson is in pole position as the first-choice striker at Chelsea right now, but he’ll know he needs to keep up his form with teammate Christopher Nkunku breathing down his neck.

Speaking on his podcast, John Obi Mikel said Jackson is improving and taking on his words of advice. Let’s hope he can continue this purple patch of form into the next set of fixtures.
