Arne Slot explains why Chelsea are one team that remind him of Arsenal

Arne Slot has been preparing his Liverpool side ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge. In fact, he’s said in the build-up to the match that Chelsea actually remind him of Arsenal.

Chelsea host Liverpool on Saturday evening in the standout game of the weekend’s fixtures.

It is the last opportunity for both teams to pick up points before a two-week pause for October’s international break.

Arne Slot admits Chelsea remind him of Arsenal

Arne Slot, the Liverpool manager, has been previewing his team’s trip to Chelsea this weekend. He made the intriguing comment that the Blues have plenty of similarities with Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Slot told Sky Sports Premier League: “Chelsea are a completely different challenge to all the ones we’ve had before, with the exception of one, Arsenal. I think there are many comparisons between Arsenal and Chelsea. When you look at the way they set up, the way they play, the way they want to bring the ball out from the back, the way they want to press. There I see a lot of similarities.”

Many people expect Arsenal to be firm title challengers this season alongside Liverpool and Manchester City, so Chelsea must be doing something to draw comparisons. In general, both teams usually dominate possession and look to play their way through opponents.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has done an impressive job at the Emirates Stadium since he took charge in 2019, transforming the North London club into huge competitors. Meanwhile, Maresca is just in his second season as the Chelsea head coach.

Incidentally, Opta predicts that Chelsea are over five times less likely than Arsenal to win the Champions League this season.

Arteta and Maresca, who both previously worked as assistants to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, definitely have a crossover when it comes to tactics.

Like Arteta, Maresca deserves plenty of time to try and build a long-term success at the football club. He’s already given plenty of suggestions to prove he’s the right fit at Stamford Bridge.
