Manchester City may have made a big mistake by selling Cole Palmer to Chelsea in the summer.

That is according to BBC pundit Pat Nevin.

Cole Palmer, who’s just 21, is one of the exciting young talents to come from the successful academy at Man City.

However, the Premier League champions sold the English attacker to rivals Chelsea for £40million (Sky Sports) in the summer.

Now, Pat Nevin reckons that Man City may actually regret the 21-year-old’s sale.

“The loss of [Ilkay] Gundogan feels even more serious now and the surprise ejection of Cole Palmer, a player I thought could grow into a City giant, but was offloaded to help balance the books, looks questionable in hindsight,” Nevin told BBC Sport.

Palmer has hit the ground running in Chelsea colours, scoring once and providing a couple of assists in his opening six appearances for the club. On top of that, it looks like he’s managed to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s best line-up.

The left-footed attacker is looking extremely dangerous as a right-winger who drifts infield into central positions.

He’ll hope to continue this momentum during the international break while he’s away with England’s Under-21s side.

Jason Cundy recently said that Palmer is turning out to be the player Chelsea wanted Kai Havertz to be, as quoted by talkSPORT.

We’ll have to wait and see what Palmer’s attacking contributions look like by the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge, but the early signs from him look extremely encouraging.

It’s hard to say right now he’s weakened Pep Guardiola’s Man City side when you asses all their attacking talents. However, there’s no doubt that he’s made a big improvement to Chelsea’s options.

It’s very telling that Chelsea boss Pochettino has already called Palmer a “very talented” player, as quoted by Football London.
