BBC pundit claims there’s one question Mauricio Pochettino will be asking Todd Boehly before he joins Chelsea

Chris Sutton believes Mauricio Pochettino will ask Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly an important question before completing a move to Stamford Bridge.

There are rumours in the media that Mauricio Pochettino may be close to landing the permanent manager job at Chelsea.

The 51-year-old has had a year-long break since exiting Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but he could be set for his first job in England since departing Tottenham in 2019.

According to The Times, Chelsea held more discussions with Pochettino on Monday night about joining them. Their sources are ‘increasingly confident’ he’ll take charge at the Bridge, albeit there’s still not a consensus within the club’s recruitment team.

BBC pundit Sutton fully understands the Pochettino links to Chelsea.

However, he predicts that the Argentine coach will be keen to ask Boehly about his involvement inside the Blues dressing room. He’s convinced Pochettino won’t want the owner involved inside the actual locker room.

“I think it makes sense Chelsea going for somebody like Pochettino. Because of that, I think the one question which Pochettino will be asking Todd Boehly is if he is going to stay out of the dressing room,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live’s The Monday Night Club.

“He would want control of the dressing room and he wouldn’t want him anywhere near that. He would have to sort out that pretty early as I think we would all agree that Boehly has been too hands on and I think if Pochettino goes in he will want to do it his way.”

A lot of the talk earlier this month was centred around Boehly entering the Chelsea changing room on a matchday.

The Telegraph previously explained that Boehly spent over an hour addressing the Chelsea players after April’s Premier League defeat against Brighton.

We can’t really fault this Blues ownership for their heart and effort. They can be so much smarter with their application, though.

Let’s hope that the owners and next manager can come to an agreement on the day-to-day running of the club around the football operations.
