Ben Chilwell has shared that Mauricio Pochettino has promised to take the Chelsea players out for dinner after they all completed the gruelling Gacon Test earlier in pre-season.

We’re reading lots of positive reports coming out of the Blues camp during Mauricio Pochettino’s first month in charge.

The Chelsea head coach worked with his squad for a couple of weeks in England before jetting off for the pre-season tour in the United States, where they’ve played three friendly matches already.

Blues left-back Ben Chilwell has now shared a brilliant incident from the beginning of pre-season.

Apparently, Pochettino tempted the Chelsea players into completing the Gacon Test, which is renowned as an incredibly tough running drill, with the promise he’ll take them all out for dinner at a later date.

“We did the Gacon Test one day and we were meant to do 10 runs, but we got to the eighth and the manager, I still don’t know if he was doing a mental trick on us, said we could stop if we wanted,” Chilwell said during an interview with CaughtOffside.

“Everyone was on their knees after the eighth one, and he said, ‘If everyone completes the next two, I’ll take you all out for dinner’. Of course we all finished and now we’re waiting for the dinner!”

It’s a great story which shows why Pochettino joined the club with the big reputation of a man-manager.

His teams throughout his career have been extremely fit, so we’re glad to hear he’s whipping the Blues squad into shape in preparation for the new campaign.

The Chelsea group, which was about 15 players too heavy last season, must have been a nightmare to cope with.

Hopefully, Pochettino can create close-knit squad in the dressing room, which historically translates into success on the pitch.

The Athletic recently claimed that Pochettino asked his Chelsea players to not sit with the same groups every day during the pre-season tour.

Let’s hope we’ve got our Chelsea back this season!
