Ben Foster has big doubts about if £32m Chelsea man is ‘clever’ enough

Chelsea go into the international break off the back of a draw at home that they will really feel they should have turned into a win.

The Blues were held 1-1 at Stamford Bridge by Crystal Palace, with Enzo Maresca experiencing all three results already as a Premier League manager.

There have only been limited changes made to the starting side by the Italian this season in the league, with Noni Madueke forcing his way in due to excellent displays.

However, the core of the side has remained the same, with many players being named in the starting XI for all three games so far.

One of those is Nicolas Jackson, who already has two goals to his name this season.

Ben Foster questions Nicolas Jackson

Jackson continued to silence doubters with a strike against Palace, however the fact the Blues didn’t leave that game with three points saw more questions asked.

Ben Foster has claimed that he thinks the striker wasted a big opportunity in that game, and is not convinced he is the real deal as of yet.

He said on YouTube: “I want to talk about Nicolas Jackson. I watched a lot of the highlights of this game. Don’t get me wrong. He scored, he took his goal well, but there were a couple of times in that game where I am watching Nicolas Jackson and I am thinking, you don’t look like a real deadline clever striker.

“He had a couple of opportunities where he could have played somebody in or he could have done something slightly different, but he’s like he has rushed a shot and he has hacked at a shot, and you have just wasted a massive opportunity there. And that’s the bit I just don’t think he has got that IQ.”

Chelsea decide against Victor Osimhen

Chelsea decided late in the transfer window that they were not going to pursue a deal for Victor Osimhen beyond their terms, and this saw him not make the move to West London over the summer.

The club have high hopes in the Senegal international though. Chelsea already believe Jackson is worth way more than the fee they paid for him two years ago.

The challenge now will be for him to show it on a consistent basis, although few flaws can be found in his start to the campaign.
