Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has now claimed that something changed at the club last summer that has really helped him.

He told the club website that the change of manager the club went through halfway through his first year here did a lot to help him begin to reach his best level at Stamford Bridge.

On his 23rd birthday today, Fernandez is preparing to celebrate his first year as a Chelsea player following his then club-record transfer from Benfica.

The move followed his sensational spell at the World Cup, where he was named the young player of the tournament as his country went on to win it.

However, some will have been left thinking that they have not seen those levels during his time in West London so far.

Despite that, another player of the match display last time out against Fulham could go some way to beginning to change those views.

Fernandez on change that helped him

Fernandez himself has now claimed that the managerial change over the summer has helped him a lot this time around.

He said: “The first six months were difficult, the second part of last year was better. That the current coaching staff speak Spanish has helped me a lot. I am working to get to my best level and hope I can meet the club’s expectations of me.”

The Blues took a lot of time before this season got underway to make sure that they hired the right man for the job, and they ended up bringing in Mauricio Pochettino to replace Graham Potter.

While all the reports have been claiming that those at the club are still happy with the Argentine in charge, this opinion may change if they are knocked out of the EFL Cup by Middlesbrough when the second leg comes round at Stamford Bridge next week.
