Gary Lineker has now claimed that he was really impressed when he saw one Chelsea transfer target in action a few seasons ago.

He told ‘The Rest is Football’ that whoever manages to complete a deal for Victor Osimhen will be the beneficiaries of a seriously talented striker.

Osimhen has been strongly linked with a move away from the club, although it is not likely to take place this month.

That is because he has recently signed a new deal with Napoli, although this involves a release clause which will surely be triggered at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has been frequently touted as the number one target as far as Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino are concerned.

Lineker has given his abilities his personal seal of approval, recalling watching him play in the flesh as an example of just how good he is against a Leicester side in the Europa League.

Lineker praises Osimhen

He said: “He’s some player. I remember a couple of seasons ago, when Leicester played in the Europa League, we went to the King Power with my boys and he was unbelievably good against Leicester.

“He was such a handful, brilliant in the air, incredibly quick, his movement was very intelligent and he’s going to be a great signing for someone.”

With an Osimhen deal not possible in the final week of the transfer window, it has been reported that the Blues are considering a deal for a striker on a short-term basis.

One of the linked targets is Karim Benzema, who is training away from his teammates in Saudi Arabia amid tension in the ranks.

While it has been claimed that he is looking for a way back to European football, it remains to be seen whether he will get his wish in the final few days of the January transfer window.
