Callum Hudson-Odoi says Chelsea legend gave him his most inspiring sporting moment after ‘crazy game’

Chelsea have given Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi some fond memories.

Callum Hudson-Odoi came through Chelsea’s academy and was part of the first team before joining Nottingham Forest last summer.

Following an Achilles injury that Hudson-Odoi picked up, his Chelsea career did not quite go the way he would have hoped.

Despite being sold by the Blues, the winger has no ill feeling towards the club, with one Chelsea legend producing a moment that he will never forget.

Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League final

When Hudson-Odoi was asked for his most inspiring sporting moment, the 23-year-old did not hesitate to say the 2012 Champions League final, where Didier Drogba won the match for Chelsea with a penalty kick.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Hudson-Odoi said: “I think when Chelsea played Bayern Munich, Champions League final. I think when [Didier] Drogba scored the penalty, that will always live in everyone’s head really. It was a crazy game.”

Hudson-Odoi was able to follow in Drogba’s footsteps after winning the Champions League himself with Chelsea back in the 2020/21 season.

Chelsea supporters would love to see the club win their third Champions League trophy, but for now the Blues have to aim for the Conference League.

It would be shameful if Chelsea failed in the Conference League this season, says Chris Sutton.

Chelsea’s next Champions League final?

Chelsea have been involved in three Champions League finals, winning two of them.

Their loss came against Manchester United in 2008, which went to penalties just like the 2012 Munich final.

Drogba was the villain that day as opposed to the hero after getting sent off but got his redemption four years later at the Allianz Arena.

There will be no Champions League final this year for the Blues, but perhaps Enzo Maresca‘s side can get there in 2026 if they qualify for the competition at the end of this season.

No one, of course, expected Chelsea to win the tournament in 2021. Ultimately, Chelsea are just a club you can never write off. For now, though, they are obviously very far off that next Champions League trophy.
