Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is really starting to earn his stripes as a manager over in Italy.

Cesc Fabregas was appointed as Como boss last summer following their promotion to Serie A, and he is doing a very good job at the helm.

Sitting 13th in the table on 28 points, the Italian side will be hopeful of avoiding relegation. Their last two games have certainly gone much better than Fabregas’ old club Chelsea‘s.

Chelsea lost 2-1 against Aston Villa on Saturday and have now dropped down to seventh in the Premier League standings following Newcastle United’s win over Nottingham Forest.

Cesc Fabregas shuts down Romelu Lukaku as Como go on to beat Napoli 2-1

Chelsea fans will be pleased to hear that Como defeated Napoli on Sunday and not just because Fabregas is in charge of the club.

Every Chelsea supporters’ favourite player, Romelu Lukaku, started for Napoli but did not get a sniff.

In total, the Belgian striker had just eight touches of the ball and one shot before being hooked off by Antonio Conte in the 62nd minute.

With Napoli second in Serie A and fighting for the title, it was undoubtedly the biggest win in Fabregas’ coaching career so far.

For any clubs that are looking at the former World Cup winner, it is very promising. After losing his last two matches, hopefully Enzo Maresca can secure some big victories himself in the coming weeks.

Chelsea take on Arsenal next month before another London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at the start of April.

Recent comments by Maresca pleased some Chelsea fans, but they are going to want to see those words backed up with performances now.

Why Cesc Fabregas could manage Chelsea one day

Fabregas is a modern-day coach and as a footballer, he often played in teams that would dominate possession and press high to win the ball back.

That is what owners want these days, including the likes of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. It is why they hired Maresca, who like Fabregas, has worked with Pep Guardiola before, a pioneer of the above.

Chelsea look like they are going to stick with Maresca during this bad patch and beyond. But it really would not be a surprise to see the club turn to Fabregas one day. He has become the kind of coach that every chairman and owner desires.
