Chelsea have already made it clear that they are going to be busy again in the upcoming summer transfer window in order to fill the gaps that have become apparent in their squad.
Despite a need to strengthen a number of positions in the starting squad, it is younger players who they have already secured the services of ahead of a future move.
The Blues have completed deals to bring in Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon alraedy, with the latter joining the first team this summer.
There is a reported desire to ‘go big’ in the summer, and one position which could emerge as a priority is the right-back role.
The Blues have been linked with a number of options, with there still being a youthful look to the majoirty of their targets.
Chelsea monitoring Givario Read
One of those is Givario Read, who despite being just 18 years of age has already established himself as a regular for Feyenoord.
He has provided seven assists in all competitions, showing an attacking ability that would suit Chelsea’s attempted way of playing.
According to Caught Offside, the Blues are one of a number of top sides monitoring Read, with Liverpool and Barcelona also keen.
Chelsea do have Malo Gusto as an option already in their side, however Gusto has disappointed with his performances in recent weeks.
Enzo Maresca not planning to play Reece James at right-back
Reece James also looks close to full fitness again, marking a string of repeat appearances with a stunning goal for England during the international break.
Despite playing right-back under Thomas Tuchel, Maresca sees James as a midfielder, and has made that clear in recent interviews.
The Blues captain has impressed there in recent weeks, although there would certainly be an appetite to see him back in the role he came through playing.
It remains to be seen if this changes when Romeo Lavia is fit and ready to start again in midfield, with him returning off the bench in their last outing against Arsenal.
