Understandably, Chelsea supporters took a keen interest in Michael Olise’s Champions League debut on Tuesday night.

Michael Olise was on Chelsea’s radar during the summer, but the winger ended up joining Bayern Munich instead.

There, Olise has made his first-ever appearance in the Champions League, and it was a good one.

The 22-year-old managed to score twice against Dinamo Zagreb as Bayern went on to win the game 9-2.

Chelsea fans react to Michael Olise’s performance against Dinamo Zagreb

While Chelsea did miss out on Olise, they still managed to sign Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto, who are hardly terrible wingers.

Sancho has already shown that, setting up Christopher Nkunku’s winner against Bournemouth last weekend. Arsenal legend David Seaman has been raving about Sancho following his cameo at the Vitality Stadium.

Nevertheless, some Chelsea fans are still disappointed that the club could not get a deal for Olise over the line.

One Chelsea supporter took to X to say: “How did we miss out on him [Jhon Duran] and Olise?”

Another said: “Olise brace on his UCL debut, Onana goal on his UCL debut. Couple their individual ability with Chelsea’s need for their exact profiles, you can’t make this up I fear. I’m once again asking for the sporting director job, Chels.”

And finally, one user posted: “Michael Olise is one player I still feel bad we didn’t go all out to sign. Olise would have improved Chelsea drastically.”

Chelsea have Richard Olise on their books

Chelsea at least have one Olise at the club, Michael’s younger brother Richard.

Richard Olise is part of Chelsea’s academy, and supporters may have thought that having him at Cobham would help the club to lure his sibling to west London.

That never happened, of course, with Michael now shining at the Allianz Arena with Bayern. Enzo Maresca will not be losing too much sleep over Chelsea not signing him, though.

The Chelsea manager still has Sancho, Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk, who can all play out wide.

Simply put, the Blues are not light in the wide positions, and most of the options that they have have contributed to at least one goal in the Premier League this season, be it through an assist or scoring directly.

Mudryk is actually the only Chelsea winger who is yet to score a goal or provide an assist in the top flight.
