Crystal Palace came from behind twice on Wednesday night to earn a 2-2 draw away to Arsenal, and many Chelsea supporters are really keen on signing one Premier League star after his midweek performance.
Chelsea and Crystal Palace, the two London rivals, have conducted plenty of transfer business together in recent years.
In the current 2024/25 season, the Blues loaned out Trevoh Chalobah to Palace before recalling him early in the January window. However, Chelsea-owned left-back Ben Chilwell moved to Selhurst Park in the New Year on loan for the rest of the season.
Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi is frequently linked with a potential return to Stamford Bridge this summer. In fact, it’s been reported that Chelsea figures are convinced they’ll sign Marc Guehi ahead of next season.
Interestingly, the Chelsea fanbase have put forward the name of a different Palace star they’d love to sign.

Chelsea fans would love to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace
In Palace’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Jean-Philippe Mateta came off the bench to score a stunning late equaliser. He showed incredible instincts to spot Gunners goalkeeper David Raya off his line and finish from distance with a beautiful chipped goal.
The 27-year-old striker is usually one of the first names in the starting XI, but perhaps Palace boss Oliver Glasner had one eye on their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Chelsea fans on social media responded to Mateta’s brilliance versus Arsenal by suggest they should try to sign him.
It’s been claimed that Chelsea can afford a ‘major acquisition’ at striker in the summer transfer window, which is perhaps why they’re being linked with numerous different centre-forwards.
According to many Blues supporters on X, they’d be making a great decision if they turn their attention towards Palace talisman Mateta.
One fan wrote: “Chelsea going for mateta this summer could be the move you know.”
“The two strikers I would bring in for the summer would be Mateta + take your pick,” another posted.
One supporter claimed: “Mateta at Chelsea moves me.”
“Chelsea should sign Mateta,” another insisted.

Chelsea linked with Jean-Philippe Mateta in 2025
Palace’s Mateta isn’t one of the names frequently linked with Chelsea in the transfer rumour mill, but he was mentioned as a potential target a couple of months ago.
It was claimed in February 2025 that Chelsea are monitoring Jean-Philippe Mateta along with a number of other clubs.
Blues fans may want to wait for some more concrete rumours before getting too excited, but we agree that he’s the type of profile that could do well leading the line at Stamford Bridge.
| Season | Premier League Appearances | Premier League Goals |
| 2024/25 | 33 | 14 |
| 2023/24 | 35 | 16 |
In the last couple of seasons, Mateta has taken his game up a gear as he gets ready to reach his prime years.
Whether it’s Chelsea or someone else, we think he deserves a big move to play in Europe next season. If he can get Palace over the line to win the FA Cup, he could do that at Selhurst Park.
