Of all the players who moved on from Chelsea over the summer, there was one sale which stung Blues fans more than the rest.

Conor Gallagher spent the majority of last season as captain of the club, however it was made clear he had no future at Stamford Bridge.

After a lengthy saga, he made his way to Atletico Madrid, where manager Diego Simeone is a massive fan of his.

Last night saw him start at the heart of their midfield again, and he was on target in the first half to score his first goal in Spanish football.

Finding the net is not uncommon for the England international, with him cropping up with some important goals last season in particular.

Chelsea fans happy for Conor Gallagher

Chelsea fans flooded to social media after the game to share just how pleased they were for the former academy prospect.

One user said: “This guy is better than anything that currently exist in our midfield btw. We keep letting good players go bro was so committed.”

Another added: “I feel so happy for him.”

A third claimed: “The one thing we can all agree on is the fact that Conor Gallagher is the best midfielder in La Liga. Cobham rules!”

Another said: “How did I miss this?! I am so happy for Conor Gallagher. Atletico is the perfect club for him. He is going to be a monster player for them!”

Finally, one user stated: “Conor Gallagher bags his first goal for Atletico Madrid and MOTM. Chelsea fans drop a like for the old Chelsea boy.”

Chelsea fans miss Gallagher

There is no doubt a large section of fans who are missing the impact Gallagher used to have on the side. His name has rung around Stamford Bridge in all the home games this season.

Decision makers at Chelsea will point to their strong start to the season as reason to justify his sale.

A stat from early in the season shows Chelsea are winning the ball back just fine with the players they have, a skill that would definitely be down as one of Gallagher’s strengths.

The deal also allowed the Blues to bring Joao Felix back to West London, with him making quite the impact already in his short time at the club.
