Djordje Petrovic has officially left Chelsea after just two years at the club.

Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that they have sold Djordje Petrovic, 25, to Premier League rivals Bournemouth.

Sunderland and Bournemouth each agreed a £25m fee for Petrovic during the current summer transfer window, but it’s the latter that have come out on top to purchase the highly-rated goalkeeper.

Petrovic, who joined the Blues from New England Revolution in 2023, competed for a starting position at Stamford Bridge in the 2023/24 campaign, playing 31 times across all competitions. Last season, the Serbian gloveman played on loan at Strasbourg, where he helped them to finish seventh in Ligue 1.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca decided Petrovic could leave, as he wasn’t in his plans despite a successful loan in the French league.

Chelsea fans disappointed by Djordje Petrovic sale

A selection of Chelsea fans on social media are pretty upset by the confirmed news that Petrovic has been sold to Bournemouth.

Here are Blues supporters on X suggesting that they may have just made a transfer mistake…

One fan wrote: “This one we will regret. Some keeper.”

“This guy should be our number one stopper at Chelsea. Anyways, congrats thanks for your service,” another said.

One supporter posted: “Wrong transfer decision from Chelsea.”

“I’m gutted about this to be honest. Good luck, Djordje,” another claimed.

Finally, one fan commented: “Sad to see him go. He deserved more chances.”

Even though the Chelsea fanbase are frustrated by Petrovic’s exit, Bournemouth should be delighted about signing a shot-stopper with a lot of quality and potential.

Petrovic made WhoScored’s Ligue 1 Team of the Season because of his quality performances in Strasbourg colours, so it will be interesting to see if he can replicate that form on his return to English football.

The latest on Chelsea’s goalkeeper position

Now that Petrovic has left, Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation looks quite a bit clearer.

Reports claim that 19-year-old Blues gloveman Mike Penders will love Strasbourg on loan to continue his development in the 2025/26 campaign.

In theory, that would leave Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen again as the senior goalkeepers at Stamford Bridge.

Apparently, Chelsea have changed their mind on selling Sanchez after his outstanding performances at the Club World Cup this summer, so it looks like he may get another crack at next season as the No.1.
