Chelsea fans were keen to make their voices heard about the direction their club is going before the game against Southampton in the Premier League.

A plethora of Blues supporters crowded outside Stamford Bridge before the game to protest the direction the club is going, with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali brunting the majority of the flack.

The outside noise didn’t seem to have too much of an effect on the performance of the players, who helped the club return to the top four with a 4-0 win over the relegation-threatened Saints.

If anything, those on the pitch actually seemed to have a message to those who were protesting that it is not what was needed at this stage.

Chelsea fans confused at protests centered around Todd Boehly

Pedro Neto’s celebration called out Chelsea fans for their antics, while Levi Colwill seemed to echo that sentiment as he marked his first goal of the season.

A number of factors have been mentioned as reasons why supporters were protesting outside the ground, however those in attendance made it clear their biggest gripe was with those right at the very top.

Squad planning has been mentioned as a real issue, with Joe Cole pleading for experience to be brought in to help the youngest squad in the top flight.

Chelsea fans were left perplexed that their peers seemed to make Boehly their main target, with them believing other issues are far more worthy of protesting at this stage of the project.

One user said: “Yeah, I’ve seen Todd Boehly’s name and face more than anything else at this protest. From the pictures and videos that have been posted…They don’t even know what/why they are protesting.”

Another added: “Todd Boehly being the main face of the protests feels wrong.”

A third stated: “I have no issues with a protest but I don’t get why Todd Boehly has become the scapegoat of our problems as a club.”

Another claimed: “Anyone mentioning Todd Boehly in a serious form of protest does not have my respect. no better than rival fans if you think Boehly is the one to go after”

Finally, one user said: “I think having Todd Boehly as the main target of the protest totally devalues it. Does he even have that much influence at the club anymore?

“Surely Clearlake, Egbhali and even further down the food chain like Winstanley/Stewart makes a lot more sense?”

Todd Boehly set to ‘go big’ in summer transfer window

There has been criticism fired the way of Boehly regarding the players signed, however this should really be pointed at the sporting directors.

However, there seems to be acknowledgement that they have got some areas wrong, and are prepared to rectify that in the summer.

Chelsea are ready to ‘go big’ in the transfer market at the end of the season to address the spine of the club, with a goalkeeper, centre-back and striker on their radar.

With unrest clearly building, it feels as if those in charge need to get this next window right before they completely lose the faith of those who attend at Stamford Bridge.
